Accelerating Retail Growth at KLCC

The Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) has officially launched Franchise Expo Malaysia 2026 (FEM 2026) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC). Running from July 23 to 25, 2026, the three-day flagship event was officiated by Guest of Honour YB Ng Sze Han, Selangor State Executive Councillor for Investment, Trade, and Mobility. Now in its ninth edition, FEM 2026 has set a target of RM700 million in transaction value—a bold 40% increase over the RM500 million recorded in 2025. Spanning five exhibition halls with over 450 booths, the expo is projected to attract more than 20,000 visitors, signaling strong investor confidence in franchising as a sustainable model for business expansion.

A Strategic Hub for Global and Local Brands

Demonstrating a robust balance between domestic strength and international presence, Malaysian homegrown brands make up 60% of participating exhibitors, with global entities accounting for the remaining 40%. The event hosts participants from over 10 countries, including Thailand, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea, and Spain. Key international features include a dedicated Thailand Pavilion anchored by the Department of Business Development under Thailand's Ministry of Commerce, as well as participation from major bodies such as the China Bakery Association and the World Franchise Association.

Embracing Digital Retail and Strategic Talent Partnerships

Adapting to modern commerce trends, FEM 2026 introduced an exclusive Live Streaming Zone to seamlessly connect physical booths with online promotional channels. This live-commerce initiative forms part of MRCA's broader strategy to engage younger entrepreneurs and expand the event's global reach. Additionally, the expo witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MRCA and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT), establishing a collaborative framework for talent development, internships, career opportunities, and joint corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Ensuring Credibility and Lowering Entry Barriers

To protect prospective franchisees and maintain high operational standards, MRCA enforces a strict screening process for all exhibitors. According to FEM 2026 Organising Chairman Mr. Terry Tay, every participating brand must hold an active MRCA membership, guaranteeing an established scale and proven market credibility. Held under the theme "Invest In Your Future," the expo aims to provide transparent brand insights, lower entry barriers for aspiring business owners, and build a resilient retail ecosystem supported by industry partners including Platinum Sponsor Nu Vending and Connectivity Partner U Business.
