MRCA Elects Dato' Liew Bin as President: A New Era for "The Home of Retailers"

A New Chapter for Malaysia’s Retail Giant

On April 28, 2026, the Malaysia Retail Chain Association (MRCA) concluded its 29th Annual General Meeting (AGM) with a major leadership announcement. Dato' Liew Bin, representing Brilliant Merchandising Sdn Bhd, has been officially elected as the President of the MRCA for the 2026-2028 term. He takes over the mantle from Datuk Dr. Ken Phua Cheng Chuen of Bentley Music Sdn Bhd, who will transition into the role of Immediate Past President to continue supporting the association's growth.


"The Home of Retailers": A Vision for Inclusivity

In his inaugural address, Dato' Liew Bin introduced a new guiding tagline for his tenure: "The Home of Retailers." The vision is centered on making the MRCA a sanctuary for every retail player in Malaysia, regardless of size. The goal is to create an environment where members find tangible value, foster meaningful connections, and achieve collective business growth.


Three Strategic Pillars for the 2026-2028 Term

To turn this vision into reality, the new President outlined three ambitious objectives:

  1. Aggressive Membership Growth: The association aims to expand its base to at least 1,000 members through a new “Member-Get-Member” initiative. Beyond its own ranks, the MRCA will build affiliations with other key retail and F&B associations, aiming to increase its collective representation to over 10,000 businesses nationwide.

  2. Market Influence and Digital Presence: The MRCA plans to launch a dedicated podcast platform to share industry knowledge and highlight emerging trends. Additionally, the association will strengthen ties with government agencies like KPDN, Tourism Malaysia, and Pernas, while revitalizing its official magazine to serve the wider retail industry.

  3. Enhanced Member Benefits: The tenure will see the launch of the MRCA App, designed as a dedicated marketplace for members. Other initiatives include the "Member Plus Campaign" for voucher sharing, new scholarship opportunities through the MRCA Foundation, and utilizing the new MRCA building at Icon City as a hub for training and collaboration.

The elected leadership team brings together a diverse group of industry veterans:

  • President: Dato' Liew Bin (Brilliant Merchandising Sdn Bhd)

  • Deputy President: Dato' Vincent Choo Kok Leang (Urban Idea Sdn Bhd)

  • Vice Presidents: Dr. Afendi Bin Dahlan (DR Group Holdings), Ms. Valerie Choo Yoke Shiem (Simply Awesome), Mr. Michael Liew Fong Tzer (Marrybrown), and Dato' Winnie Lim Yoke Chin (Solution Risk Consultants).

  • Secretary-General: Mr. Henry Low Kar Onn (Spectrum Outdoor Marketing)

  • Treasurer-General: Ms. Aiveen Wong Choy Ching (Chin Swee Food)

The council also includes representatives from major brands such as Senheng, Poh Kong, Focus Point, AirAsia (Tune Group), and Wellous, ensuring a broad spectrum of expertise across the retail sector.
