On the seventh day of the Lunar New Year, which coincides with Lichun (the beginning of spring), PKR Federal Territories Deputy Chairman and Wangsa Maju Division Chief, Lai Cheng Hing, hosted the 2025 Chinese New Year gathering at the 12th-floor market parking lot last night. The event attracted over 2,000 residents from Wangsa Maju, who came together to enjoy festive delicacies, cultural performances, and calligraphy booths, fostering a strong sense of community unity.
In his speech, Lai expressed his gratitude for the trust and support of the community as he serves his second term as Wangsa Maju Division Chief. He emphasized that Wangsa Maju is a vibrant and multicultural community, and the Chinese New Year gathering is not only a traditional celebration for the Chinese community but has also become a festival for all ethnicities to participate in.
“The success of this event is thanks to the unity and enthusiasm of Wangsa Maju residents. Seeing so many friends come together to celebrate the New Year demonstrates our growing sense of belonging and reflects the spirit of the unity government—where we embrace a future together regardless of race or religion.”

Lai also announced his intention to defend his position as Wangsa Maju Division Chief in the upcoming party elections, aiming to continue driving unity and development in the area.
Promoting Community Development for a More Livable Wangsa Maju
During his tenure as Wangsa Maju Division Chief, Lai has actively initiated various community projects to improve the living environment. Over the past year, his team has worked to address infrastructure issues, enhance road safety, optimize public spaces, and advocate for affordable housing projects, ensuring that residents’ concerns are heard and addressed.
“Wangsa Maju is a growing community, and we must ensure that its infrastructure keeps pace with development so that residents can enjoy a more comfortable living environment,” he said.

He also emphasized close collaboration with local authorities to secure more resources for Wangsa Maju, including public transport improvements, enhanced community safety, and environmental sustainability initiatives.
“Whether it’s increasing bus stops or improving street lighting, our goal is to create a more convenient and safer environment for residents.”
Lai highlighted that the Chinese New Year gathering serves not only as a festive celebration but also as an opportunity for residents to discuss the future development of their community. He pledged to continue engaging with the people and implementing concrete actions to make Wangsa Maju more livable.
Supporting Unity Government Policies & Advocating for More Welfare Programs
During the event, Lai conveyed the policy direction of the Unity Government to Wangsa Maju residents. He emphasized that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Madani (Civilized Malaysia) policies are bringing positive transformations nationwide, and as an important district in Kuala Lumpur, Wangsa Maju should receive more development resources.
He pointed out that the government is actively promoting affordable housing projects, public transport improvements, and economic recovery policies, and he will work to ensure these initiatives are implemented in Wangsa Maju for the benefit of the residents.
“Economic recovery, urban development, and improved public services are our top priorities. I will continue advocating for more resources to make our community more prosperous,” he said.

A Symbol of Community Cohesion: Multiracial Celebration of the Festive Season
The gathering was not only attended by Chinese residents but also saw the participation of many Malay and Indian friends, highlighting the multicultural harmony of Wangsa Maju. A variety of performances were arranged to entertain attendees, creating a memorable celebration for all.
“Chinese New Year is not just a festival for the Chinese community; it’s an opportunity for all races to come together and strengthen their bonds,” Lai said. Seeing residents from diverse backgrounds celebrating together filled him with pride, and he expressed hope for more such events in the future to foster stronger community ties.
The event concluded on a joyous and harmonious note, with Lai extending his New Year wishes to all Wangsa Maju residents, hoping for a year filled with hope and progress. He acknowledged that challenges remain, but with unity and determination, Wangsa Maju will continue to thrive.
