Kuala Lumpur is buzzing! At the Global Automotive & Technology Expo (GATE 2025) on November 12, a pivotal announcement was made that signals a giant leap for Malaysia's electric vehicle (EV) future. Swift Bridge Technologies (MFG) Sdn. Bhd. has committed RM11.2 million over the next three years to achieve a massive goal: becoming Malaysia's very first local manufacturer of certified EV chargers.
This isn't just about importing equipment; it’s about building capacity right here at home, ensuring the backbone of Malaysia's EV infrastructure is proudly local, certified, and ready for rapid expansion.
The RM11.2M Commitment: Powering Up Production
Swift Bridge Technologies is diving deep into both the public and residential charging markets. The RM11.2 million investment will establish complete, local production lines capable of manufacturing two key types of chargers:
AC Chargers (7kW–22kW): Perfect for residential, commercial, and workplace charging. The target is an ambitious 10,000 units annually by 2026.
DC Chargers (120kW–600kW): These are the powerful, high-speed superchargers needed for highway rest stops and large charging hubs. They plan to manufacture 1,000 units annually by 2028.
By localizing this production, Malaysia secures its supply chain and ensures that chargers are designed and built to withstand local conditions while adhering to the highest international standards, confirmed by required certification from SIRIM QAS.
Strategic Partnerships and National Alignment
The significance of this announcement was underlined by the presence of key government agencies at the MoU signing ceremony, which took place during GATE 2025. The exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with strategic partners—Ideal Property Group, ChargeSini, EV Plus, and SDEC Karuna—was witnessed by the CEOs of both the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii).
Why does this matter? As MIDA CEO Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid stated, this investment shows "growing confidence of industry players in Malaysia’s policy direction". This localization effort directly supports major national initiatives, including the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030), the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint, and the Green Investment Strategy.
In short, Swift Bridge Technologies isn't just chasing a business opportunity; they are actively helping the nation hit its ambitious clean energy targets, solidifying Malaysia’s push to become a regional hub for green technology and EV manufacturing.
The Human Element: Creating 200+ Skilled Jobs
An investment of this scale isn't just about hardware; it's about people. Swift Bridge Technologies is committing to developing human capital by training over 200 skilled Malaysian talents within the next three years.
These are high-value, future-proof jobs covering every aspect of the technology lifecycle, from product design and process engineering right through to field service, maintenance, and commissioning. This focus ensures that the expertise to run, maintain, and innovate this critical infrastructure remains firmly rooted within the country.
As Dato’ SK Chong, Executive Chairman of Swift Bridge Technologies, proudly summarized, "We are creating jobs, developing talent, and strengthening our local supply chain under a proudly Malaysian brand.”
This project marks a fundamental shift: from relying on imported EV technology to confidently manufacturing our own, locally developed, and certified charging solutions. The future of Malaysian mobility just got a whole lot brighter—and faster!
