Hospital Picaso Launches “Think Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Hospital Picaso has launched “Think Pink”, a month-long campaign aimed at increasing awareness around the prevention, early detection, and treatment of breast cancer. The campaign features a range of educational and community initiatives, underscoring the importance of routine screenings and self-exams.

Empowering Communities through Awareness

Hospital Picaso’s General Manager, Encik Ahmad Lutfi, emphasized that the campaign seeks to encourage Malaysians to take part in meaningful activities such as educational events, donations, and health screenings, reinforcing the spirit of care and community support.

“Through ‘Think Pink,’ we want to empower the public with knowledge about breast cancer, while also promoting general well-being and fostering a caring spirit among the community,” said Lutfi.

A recent report by the Malaysia National Cancer Registry (2017-2021) revealed that breast cancer accounts for 17.6% of all diagnosed cancers, making it the most prevalent cancer in the country. Alarmingly, the incidence of breast cancer is increasing, especially among women aged 65 to 69, highlighting the need for awareness and early intervention.

Specialized Care at Hospital Picaso

Hospital Picaso is home to three expert breast surgeons:

  • Dr. Normayah Kitan

  • Dr. Ng Char Hong

  • Professor Emeritus Dato' Dr. Yip Cheng Har

At the recent private launch of the Breast and Women’s Health Centre within the hospital, these specialists stressed that early detection is key to improving survival rates. They encouraged monthly self-examinations and annual screenings as proactive measures to help women manage their health and reduce the disease burden.

Community Engagement Events and Initiatives

“Whisk for Wellness” Fundraiser

A highlight of the campaign was a baking fundraiser to support the Breast Cancer Welfare Association (BCWA). The event featured a health talk and a hands-on baking session, with proceeds benefiting BCWA’s programs that support breast cancer patients.

Workshop on Advances in Breast Cancer Treatment

Hospital Picaso also organized a multidisciplinary workshop attended by more than 80 participants, including surgeons, radiologists, oncologists, and trainees. The workshop featured keynote presentations from Hospital Picaso’s doctors, focusing on the latest advancements in early-stage diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Upcoming “Think Pink” Community Day on October 27

Hospital Picaso invites the public to join a one-day community engagement event on October 27, designed to promote healthy living and raise awareness about breast cancer management.
