Oil and Gas Asia (OGA) 2024, Southeast Asia’s largest industry event, kicked off its 20th edition on 25 September 2024 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. With the theme “Powering Progress Towards a Sustainable Energy Landscape”, the event focuses on accelerating the global push towards decarbonization and building a sustainable future for the energy sector.

A Platform for Industry Collaboration and Innovation

The event features 2,000 companies and brands from across the full energy value chain, showcasing cutting-edge technologies and solutions.

Officiated by YB Rafizi Ramli, Malaysia’s Minister of Economy, the event also highlights the participation of seven international pavilions representing Germany, South Korea, Singapore, United Kingdom, China, Italy, and India, underscoring OGA’s role in facilitating global collaboration and driving regional growth.

Key Players and Supporting Partners

Prominent industry players such as PETRONAS, Velesto, Emerson, Steel Hawk Engineering Sdn Bhd, Italian Trade Agency, Sulzer, and Yokogawa are among the many sponsors contributing to the success of the event. As the Corporate Partner, PETRONAS supports OGA’s mission to accelerate sustainable energy solutions. The Malaysian Petrochemicals Association (MPA) is back as a Conference Partner with its 2nd Petrochemicals Sustainability Conference (PSC), while the Malaysian Oil, Gas and Energy Services Council (MOGSC) hosts the 7th Malaysia Oil & Gas Services Exhibition and Conference (MOGSEC).

Driving the Future of Sustainable Energy

In his welcome address, Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat, Chairman of Informa Markets Malaysia, emphasized the critical role of OGA in shaping the future of the energy industry. “As we celebrate our 20th edition, we must prepare for the challenges of tomorrow. This year’s theme provides a dynamic platform to address the pressing challenges and explore the sustainable pathways for the oil and gas industry.”

The 2nd Petrochemicals Sustainability Conference aims to explore sustainable business models and regional cooperation with over 50 speakers and 20 sessions focused on circular practices, hydrogen economy, and balancing business growth with sustainability. Keynote speeches by YB Senator Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and YB Rafizi Ramli will delve into Malaysia’s policy frameworks and strategies for energy transition.

Ministerial Fireside Chats and Thought Leadership

Two ministerial fireside chats will be hosted by MOGSEC, featuring YB Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, and YB Rafizi Ramli, focusing on topics such as sustainable development and the role of carbon capture and storage (CCS) in empowering Malaysia’s energy future.

Cross-Border Partnerships and New Opportunities

MATRADE, through its International Sourcing Programme (INSP), returns to facilitate cross-border partnerships, helping Malaysian companies tap into global opportunities. The event will also celebrate industry innovation with the presentation of the 5th OGSE Innovation Award, supported by PETRONAS, MATRADE, and Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC), with funding evaluation of up to RM250,000 for the top five finalists.

Women in Energy and Empowering the Next Generation

OGA 2024 is not just about business; it’s about empowering future leaders and driving inclusivity in the energy sector. Key programmes include the Women in Energy Forum by the Malaysian Gas Association (MGA), the Empowering Oil, Gas and Energy Leaders of Tomorrow forum by TalentCorp Malaysia, and the NEXTGen Energy Leader initiative by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) KL, engaging young professionals and seasoned practitioners alike.

A Look Back and Moving Forward

Last year, OGA achieved a record-breaking attendance of 28,530 trade visitors from 80 countries, with 50% sourcing new products and services. This year’s edition aims to build on that success, reinforcing OGA’s position as a key platform for the exchange of knowledge and innovation.
