Wait, is that a bubble tea logo on a batik pattern? Yes, you saw that right. In a collaboration nobody saw coming, the National Museum of Malaysia and the famous bubble tea chain, CHAGEE, have joined forces to save our traditional textile art. This isn't just about sipping tea; it's about celebrating our heritage, one cup at a time. The campaign, which runs from 15th August to 15th November 2025, aims to put a modern twist on our beautiful 'Telepuk' textile art.

So What Exactly Is 'Telepuk' And Why Is It So Special?

Telepuk is a unique Malaysian textile art form that's part of the National Museum's prized collection. It's a type of batik where gold leaf or powder is pressed onto the fabric to create intricate, shiny motifs. Think of it as a fancy, gilded batik. This art form isn't just pretty; it's a huge part of our national identity and culture. The collaboration with CHAGEE uses two specific motifs—the 'batik lepas bertelepuk' and the 'sarang telepuk'—to bring this art to a new, younger audience.

The Tea is Spilling… and It's on Exclusive Merch!

This isn't just a poster campaign. CHAGEE has gone all out by incorporating the 'Telepuk' motifs into their exclusive products, including special edition drink cups, eco-friendly paper bags, and other cool souvenirs. The idea is to take this ancient art and put it into the hands of everyday Malaysians, making it cool and relevant again. As the Minister of National Unity, YB Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, said, CHAGEE is helping to introduce and preserve traditional art in modern life.

Saving Our Heritage, One Sip at a Time

Besides just making pretty cups, the campaign is also a serious effort to promote national unity and cultural appreciation. According to Eugene Lee, the head of marketing for CHAGEE Asia Pacific, this is their first collaboration with a government ministry, and they want it to be super meaningful. By highlighting this unique heritage, they hope to get more people interested in our art and culture, building a stronger sense of shared identity and respect for diversity. Plus, the Minister even suggested creating a new "Dana Wakaf Khazanah Warisan" (Heritage Treasure Waqf Fund) to help pay for more of these conservation projects. So, next time you order a CHAGEE, you might just be sipping for a good cause!
