A Historic Milestone for Public Transport

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad has achieved a historic milestone after recording its highest daily passenger count ever, reaching 1.63 million journeys in a single day on 31 December 2025. As the main public transport operator in the Klang Valley and Penang, this achievement reflects growing public confidence in rail and bus services operated under Rapid KL and Rapid Penang.

Strong Growth Driven by Reliable Operations

Throughout 2025, Prasarana recorded a significant 11 per cent increase in average daily ridership, rising to 1.31 million passengers, compared with 1.18 million the year before. This steady growth was largely driven by improved service reliability and operational consistency across both rail and bus networks. Notably, rail service disruptions were reduced by 56 per cent, with only 31 incidents recorded in 2025 compared with 71 in 2024.

Continuous Improvements in Rail and Bus Services

The improved performance is the result of long-term initiatives introduced since 2021, including more systematic and proactive asset maintenance, enhanced operational efficiency, and better punctuality. These efforts have ensured smoother, more predictable journeys for commuters and strengthened Prasarana’s service delivery standards.

Expanding and Modernising the Bus Network

In the bus segment, Rapid Bus recorded an increase in service availability, with the Level of Service (LOS) rising to 1,355 buses in 2025, up from 1,165 the previous year. This includes expanded Rapid On-Demand (ROD) services. Fleet modernisation is also progressing, with 310 new diesel buses being delivered in phases and expected to be fully operational by February 2026. Additionally, 250 electric buses under the first phase are scheduled for early delivery in March 2026, with full completion targeted by March 2027.

Improved Infrastructure for Better Accessibility

Prasarana has also focused on improving infrastructure to enhance user experience. In 2025, the company completed 301 bus stops and 16 pedestrian walkways, with another 43 bus stops and 17 walkways currently under construction. These upgrades aim to improve accessibility, comfort, and overall safety for public transport users.

Digital Transformation Enhances User Experience

Digital adoption continued to gain momentum in 2025. The Digital My50 Monthly Pass, launched in July 2025, recorded a 37 per cent digital usage rate by December, involving over 254,000 monthly pass users. Between July and December 2025, more than 556,000 Digital My50 passes were purchased, reflecting growing confidence in cashless and digital ticketing systems.

MyRapid PULSE App Gains Traction

In line with its slogan, “Advancing Mobility, Enriching Experiences”, Prasarana introduced an enhanced version of the MyRapid PULSE journey planning app in May 2025. The updated app offers user-friendly features, including a City Explorer function that helps users discover attractions around the Klang Valley. To date, the app has been downloaded 240,000 times, with 96,000 active users and over 34,000 weekly users relying on real-time bus tracking features.

2026 Focus: Better Connectivity and Capacity

Looking ahead to 2026, Prasarana will prioritise improving connectivity, safety, and service consistency across rail and bus operations. Public transport continues to be an increasingly popular choice due to cost savings and reduced travel times. Under Budget 2026, the government has extended subsidies for the My50 unlimited travel pass, which currently serves an average of 260,000 users per month, with RM100 of the actual cost subsidised by the government.

New Bus Lanes and Infrastructure Investments

Bus efficiency will be further enhanced through the introduction of two new bus lanes along Jalan Ipoh and Jalan Gombak, to be implemented in stages from the third quarter of 2026. Existing bus lanes on Jalan Ampang will also be made permanent. Under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), RM5 million has been allocated for the construction of 250 new bus stops, with 200 in the Klang Valley and 50 in Penang.

Upgrading Rail Capacity for the Long Term

To support future demand, the government has allocated RM1 billion under Budget 2026 for the replacement of 26 new LRT train sets on the Kelana Jaya Line, the busiest rail line in the Klang Valley. The first new train set is expected to be delivered in September 2028, enhancing capacity and operational efficiency.

Driving Towards a Public Transport Nation

Prasarana remains committed to supporting the government’s target of achieving 40 per cent public transport modal share in the Klang Valley by 2030, as outlined in the National Transport Policy. Through continuous service improvements, infrastructure upgrades, and digital innovation, the company aims to make public transport a reliable, comfortable, and preferred choice for Malaysians nationwide.
