A Bold Step Forward for Clean Energy in Malaysia

Samaiden Group Berhad has officially entered a landmark 21-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Malaysia’s national utility giant, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). This pivotal move signals a major push forward in the country’s renewable energy ambitions, with Samaiden’s 99.99 MWac solar photovoltaic (PV) facility in Pasir Mas, Kelantan set to become one of the largest under the nation’s Large Scale Solar 5 (LSS5) programme.

Powering Progress: What the PPA Means

Signed on 17 March 2025, the PPA outlines the terms under which Samaiden Legasi Timur Sdn. Bhd. (SLTSB), a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of Samaiden, will sell the electricity generated by its solar facility to TNB. Over the course of 21 years, TNB will purchase up to 257,988.14 MWh of clean energy annually, beginning from the Commercial Operation Date scheduled for 11 October 2027.

Leadership Speaks: A Vision Realized

“This agreement is a milestone for Samaiden,” said Datuk Ir. Chow Pui Hee, Group Managing Director of Samaiden. “It confirms our role at the forefront of Malaysia’s renewable energy revolution. Not only is this project a significant expansion of our portfolio, but it also guarantees a stable and long-term revenue stream that underpins our financial resilience.” She emphasized the project’s alignment with the Malaysian government’s target of achieving a 70% renewable energy mix by 2050.

Building a Solar Giant in Kelantan

The solar PV facility in Pasir Mas isn’t just another project—it’s a game-changer. At nearly 100 MWac, the plant will play a key role in diversifying Malaysia’s energy mix and reducing its carbon footprint. Samaiden’s expertise in engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) makes them a trusted leader to bring this ambitious facility online efficiently and sustainably.

Future-Proofing Revenue with Clean Power

While the PPA won’t have an immediate impact on Samaiden’s earnings for the current financial year ending 30 June 2025, the long-term benefits are undeniable. With guaranteed energy sales locked in for over two decades, this project is expected to bolster Samaiden’s earnings for years to come, ensuring predictable income and financial sustainability.

Driving Malaysia’s Renewable Energy Transition

This deal isn’t just about energy—it's about leadership, vision, and long-term commitment. The agreement reinforces Samaiden’s role as a key player in Malaysia’s clean energy journey. As the nation accelerates its shift from fossil fuels, Samaiden is scaling up to meet the challenge—developing large-scale infrastructure, strengthening expertise, and setting the pace for others to follow.

Final Word: Samaiden’s Sights Set on a Greener Future

With the ink now dry on this PPA, Samaiden is charging ahead. The company’s strategic direction is clear: grow its renewable energy footprint, deepen its impact, and deliver sustainable energy solutions that matter. This is more than a contract—it’s a catalyst for change.
